Is shock enjoyable?

Went the cinema last night to catch the first viewing of 'Precious' and am completetly undecided whether I enjoyed it or not. It was shocking to say the least but I am definately not in a hurry to watch it again. I don't think the movie is supposed to be 'enjoyable' but to get a point across, which it certainly did. I don't want to give the storyline away too much, but aspects of it although slightly humourous were completely heart shattering at the same time.
If you are going to see it, be prepared!

See right through me... err no thanks.

I've been flicking through february's Vogue and Elle magazines and there is a trend that is somewhat 'flashing' a huge red light at me. The transparent PVC look... Fendi's plexiglass clutch although a nice idea, no one wants to see the short stub of a eyeliner you have left or the tampon floating around your bag. Prada's perspex and velcro heels featured in Feb's Elle pg.75 just don't scream elegance to me either. This trend is slowly forming a relationship with clothes too, Dita von Teese sporting a very 'teesing' outfit this week with transparent PVC side panels.
Isn't some of the fun of fashion also being able to hide those body parts you aren't too fond of and still look amazing or being able to secretly take your little treasures out with you?
A little has to be left to the imagination.

Lulu me up.

More procrastinating and have discovered these Lulu Guiness beauties.

'Pretend you are on a beach'

Due to the freezing temperatures recently (particularly for us poor students who can't afford extortionate heating bills) we have been wrapping up in any layer we can lay our shivering hands on. The solution, well for me, my friends and our vast imaginations is to imagine we are on a beach under the sweltering heat of that ever so absent sun (I know this is scientifically impossible but you know...) This has lead to me thinking about the coming summer months; bikinis, cover ups, dresses and my favourite foot attire... sandals. Im hoping that the body con trend will transfer to summer and tanned bare legs (goodbye fake bake) will be on show, also I cannot wait to rock those gladiator sandals again.

Come on summer, hurry up.

Fringetastic

Is it me or are drastic haircuts a big deal for girls? Anyway took a brave plunge yesterday and went for a full fringe. I'm giving it a few days to grow on me though. Excuse the pun.

'notice me' dress.

More like Notice me Progress dress. Haven't been able to find any fabric that I like yet for this creation. Fingers crossed it will be finished by the end of the season!

Prospects.

Very exciting events coming up over the next few weeks in my life, thus on Viv is my homegirl! Firstly going to see 'Precious' on friday, looks emotionally draining but none the less a must see. On Feb 27th I am heading to the gorgeous Somerset House for London Fashion Weekend, cannot wait to see the creations and I promise to post a lengthy intricate article explaining all the wonders of the catwalk. Also plan on going to the Clare Rojas exhibition at the IKON gallery in Birmingham, apparently she offers a humorous take on gender relations (my favourite) through her folk and street art. I'll let you know what it's like.

'Get ahead, get a headband.'

I met this lady at the vintage fair at the Custard Factory in Birmingham. Her feather head pieces are not only one off but so so pretty.

Sweet Dreams

Nocturnal browsing.

Internet shopping at midnight (almost), have a new need for a leather skirt and is it me or have they disappeared from the internet? My new essentials; lilac/ mint green nail varnish, lace tights, leather skirt, boys hoody and a mac, but burberry are going to be waiting a long time, unfortunately.

Excited to wear my Vivienne Westwood jellies tomorrow night...

my love affair with the highstreet.

My love affair returned today, after weeks of feeling at a loss with what is on offer in the British highstreet, spring/summer beauties have arrived.

Channelling Deidre.

my body is a canvas. apparently.

So today, went to get some piercings. COMPLETELY chickened out. But have found a solution to being a whoss for a tattoo or two.

Jammin'

Trip to the Jam House on thursday for half price cocktails and swing. CANNOT WAIT. 1920's Fringe dress hello!

Pop LOVE

On saturday I ventured to the Tate Modern for the last weekend of POP LIFE. Saw amazing pieces by Warhol, Hirst, Tracy Emin and Keith Haring. Warhol's Marilyn, Mick Jagger and Hockney portraits always amaze me but I think Harings energetic 'Pop shop' stuck with me the most, check it out.

The free exhibitions were amazing too, Corneilia Parker's 'Thirty Pieces of Silver' in particular. She had steam rolled over thirty pieces of silver, funnily enough, and hung them in circles on wire. It filled a whole room. For me scultptures and art using random materials is far more interesting and unpredictable than paintings. http://www.tate.org.uk/servlet/CollectionDisplays?venueid=2&roomid=5034

Notice me dress.

I am loving the vivid florals and bright geometic patterns on the catwalk at the moment, particularly DVF, DKNY (as pictured) and Moschino. However being a skint student I have decided to make my own 'notice me dress'. I'll keep you posted on the progress!

Jumping in both feet first.

So with the first post I guess I should explain why I set up this blog. After finally getting the guts to pursue my dream job to be a fashion journalist, I have been applying for many a internship, scribbling down ideas and this blog is hopefully going to give me the opportunity to actually find out if what I have to say is actually any good!

Enjoy.
