Sex and the City 2

Just got in from watching the second Sex and the City Movie and am very torn to whether I enjoyed it or not. I sat in my seat with huge anticipation and do not feel that this anticipation has been satisfied. 

The story, was for me, too fantastical. I have loved the slight fantasy element of the series and the first movie, the idea that Carrie could not possibly afford those shoes or designer labels for example, but this time the story and at times the fashion went too far (If you go to see it, look out for the Spice Market outfit and the flight hat.)

Even though the story line was hard to believe at times, I was desperate for more drama, not much happened and I do not feel as if I know the character's any better than I did before. In fact I do not feel that the movie presented the women as how I have come to know them through the series. I missed Miranda's cynicism (in fact Miranda was hardly in the film) and Carrie's spontaneity (she is now just a nagging wife).

Also the setting of Abu Dhabi somewhat left me feeling very uncomfortable. With each girl having their own car, own butler and continually disrespecting the Muslim culture it could not have been further than being identifiable. What I love about SATC is that although the girls do love their extravagancies, I can still relate to them, however in this movie they could not have been further from this. Maybe this is because I am still a young girl in my twenties and they are much older now, married with kids etc, I do feel nevertheless that this movie was perhaps aimed at an older audience and missed the younger fans out.

My love for Samantha also decreased massively in this movie, in previous SATC she was a classy, successful lady who was not afraid to talk openly about her sexuality. However in this film, she was brassy, disrespectful and somewhat 'trashy'. I feel that the writers had to make up for the lack of charisma in the other character's in the movie by over emphasising Samantha's crudeness. It was crudeness on steroids.

All I can say is thank god for Stanford and Antony's wedding otherwise I fear that I would have been left completely disappointed.

I advise Michael Patrick King to stop right there and not completely ruin the heritage and name that Carrie and the girls have left for women, another movie might just lose the loyal legion of fans. 

Knitorama.

As of late I have been channelling my inner Granny and have taken up knitting. I used to knit when I was younger, however during my 'cool' teenage years completely discarded my skills. Coming from a family of textile enthusiasts (my Nana is the crochet master) it has always been in my blood to sew, dye, cross stitch etc and my biggest regret is not taking a textile related degree.

I was given my new needles for my 20th birthday (perhaps not the most encouraging thing to start adulthood with) it has quickly become my new craze and I have been interlocking them ever since. So far I have only produced a bright pink square, but don't you worry friends and fam, my skills will be top notch in time to knit your christmas presents!

Also I have come across 'jumbo knitting' with huge needles and thick wool that ultimately produces these gorgeous huge scarves, will most definitely be looking into that. As soon as I have produced something presentable, I will of course, share.

As I said before (and to massive regret) I cannot update this as regularly as I want to because of horrendous exams and endless revision. However by June 3rd I will be free as a bird and will be back to my blogging ways. Here are a few things that are upcoming on Viv is my Homegirl.

May 28th (as if you did not know) is the Sex and the City 2 premiere. My box set is completely worn out and I am waiting in huge anticipation to know what happens to the girls, I am not a fan of Carrie, shockingly, but cannot wait to see what masterpieces the fabulous Patricia Field has put her in. I am most keen to know what happens to Samantha, I love her attitude and confidence and really want to see her hilarious antics in this movie. My ticket is booked for 5pm on Friday to go see it with some girlfriends and the review will be up ASAP. 

June 5th, I start blogging for designasuit.com. Tres excited as it is a bit different from Glossy and I will be featuring menswear themed posts too. I will post the links up as soon as my first post is published.

June 9th, I am attending the Marie Claire Q&A session at Earls Court on how to get into fashion. Any top tips I am given I will share, fingers crossed that it will lead to something exciting. In the evening I have my ticket booked for Graduate Fashion Week's gala, featuring all the best bits from the previous days, very excited to see the creations and hopefully spot the new Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane or Luella. I will of course review and share my favourite pieces on here (note to self. MUST CHARGE CAMERA!)
Also I recently won tickets to the 'Dictionary of Dress' at the V&A's Blythe House. Will post pictures and reviews once I have been.

June 12th. Parklife in Manchester, day festival with some amazing music and fabulous friends. Looking forward to it hugely and will be definitely trying out the 'fashion face' and the latest festival trends. I will keep you posted on the trends I spot and the happenings of a day that promises to be pretty epic.

Osman's V(ivacious)&A(mazing) Catwalk.

I watched the live streaming of Osman Yousefzada's Fashion in Motion collection today at the V&A. He never fails to impress me with his plain colours but impeccable lines and fantastical shapes, it is all about structure for Osman. The highlights for me were the Glittered rollneck and the LBD with a encrusted bib and feathered collar, simply incredible. Osman, for me, is the king of power dressing and the androgynous models he used completely complemented his structured ensembles and brought edge to his more floaty pieces.

Birthday Bounce.

Leaving my teenage years behind and turning twenty was most definitely more enjoyable than I first thought it would be, for one as I have aged a year my recommended heart rate at the gym has gone down by one beat!!
It began on Sunday (a diva needs a two day birthday!) with our rank student house being transformed into a birthday beaut, a fierce nail manicure (see below post) and embracing all things spanish, well tapas, gallons of sangria and my appalling spanish accent, at La Tasca with some lovelies. On Monday, the family came and took me shopping and for dinner at the Mailbox. Monday eve, we set off some Chinese wish lanterns (I hope those wishes come true girls!) and played with sparklers!


Highlights on the fashion stakes were Whistles khaki shorts, Vintage brooch, House of Holland tights, wedge espadrilles, crochet black dress, RayBan cats eye's and the floral brogues pictured in the previous post. I was given a fantastic book by my housemate; it is The Satorialist's book on all his fantastic street fashion photography. It has already given me inspiration, thus giving my bank balance a nice whack.  A Vogue subscription, from my BFFE, LOVE LOVE LOVE and a bottle of champers definitely is going to hit the spot post exams.
