I am a sandal freak but I have to say that is as far as my summer lovin' goes fashion wise. Autumn/Winter is much more endearing to me, I love the layering, knits, autumnal, rich shades and the boots... ah the boots.

That 'transitional' period.

Not only are many of my friends and I having to contend with moving home post graduation in order to save money/ plan the rest of our lives and begin our transition into the daunting 'real world' but we, like the rest of the fash-pack are having to deal with the transition between seasons and my oh my what a difficulty that is. Forget losing our freedom to over-protective parents or giving up our personal space, we have that down to a T, but ask us how to make our uber bright hot pants work with our fur coats... it just leads to a hooker-worthy disaster.

After a lot of contemplating and wardrobe fishing I have come up with the top 5 transitional pieces that will work from late summer, all the way through to snowy January.

1. The Mustard/Blood Red Midi.

It's up to you which autumnal shade you choose but this style of skirt looks hot teamed with a baggy vest, gladiator sandals/wedges and a leather jacket for those summery nights OR with thick tights, chelsea boots and a wooly off-the-shoulder knit. 2. Layerable Knit.

Whether a thin jumper that can be layered with your thermals (long sleeves) or a thick knit cardigan that can been thrown over the top of any summer wear it will be certain bring you into A/W 2011. It seems Pooch knits are in if you are one to follow the crowd, but I personally am still loving the aztec threads and think they are perfect for those summer to autumn months.

A must have last season and definitely still applicable to the next. Instead of colour clashing your brights, team your grass green, raspberry red and the alike with more demure tones such as mustard, camel, navy, black, and white. My venture to Paris didn't start off brilliantly, after encountering our first Parisian (sniffing Cocaine off the windowsill of the Eurostar station) we arrived at our hotel. Hotel Pointe Rivoli looked stunning on the website so when we arrived and toddled through the door labelled 'HOTEL' we were shocked to find a pokey little place, no lift, a seventy stair climb and a room that can only be described as the love child of Fawlty Towers and a dirty porno movie, PVC cushions and all. Solution; champagne and numerous bottles of red wine.

Regardless of the dwellings the city was everything I expected; stylish, beautiful and full of character. Other than the usual tourist attractions, I visited the famous macaroon shop Laduree, the high fashion hang-out Colette and Les Arts Decoratifs to see Hussein Chalayan's exhibtion and my god it was amazing....

Hussein Chalayan, who this week was given an honour by the London College of Fashion is perhaps the pioneer of merging new technologies and classic lines all in the name of fashion. His exhibition was off-setting in that it had a disturbing aura which unnerved the audience, leaving them expecting the unexpected. Showcasing key pieces from his past season collections, the exposition displayed Chalayan's ready-to-wear clean lines and classic pieces as well his avant-garde couture pieces. The displays were breathtaking but for me the dark rooms where Chalayan's latest catwalk shows including the transcending 'Transformer's' 2007 show and his short movies were shown was the highlight. Chalayan's work speaks for itself and exemplifies perfectly how structure, art, design and fashion can collaborate flawlessly.

My oh my tie-dye.

I might be late on the upkeep, (full time job and jetting off to Paris has exhausted me) but last week The Telegraph reported that tie dye had been voted the worst fashion faux pas of the last century. As a pro tie-dye campaigner (not literally) I was a little shocked, does no one remember the skirt over trousers (which my fashion sources tell me is coming back, watch out for Marc Jacobs next season) or the neon string vest trend?
Maybe it was voted so, as it can be tricky to get it 'right'. Tie die looks best when it is not a D.I.Y creation that is formed of an array of colours on your old decorating T-shirt. If you want to 'do' tie-dye be prepared to spend a few extra pennies in order to get something that isn't going to look like one of Blue Peter's finest. It is best worn 'Boho' and I tend to think that colour tie dyed with white is the classiest and most sophisticated way to wear the pattern.

It's almost time to get lost in Paris and I have spent most of today ransacking my wardrobe looking for worthy ensembles. I have gone for versatile pieces; green jeans, black skinnies, sequin kimono, fringed cape, fringed jacket, leopard print snood, and of course a navy nautical striped dress. I think I shall have to leave the beret and garlic at home this time though, too many shoes to fit into my suitcase.

The Conspirator

Directed by legend Robert Redford, starring renowned actor James McAvoy, The Conspirator claims to be a bit of a hit. However within the first thirty minutes I was bored stiff-less. The period piece where everyone looks like they are in one of those 'dress up' photo booths at Alton Towers failed to capture my attention to begin with.
Based on the aftermath of the shooting of President Abraham Lincoln, The Conspirator is the story of a mother who is accused of co-conspiring the murder of the American president. As the film got underway, it did become more interesting, finally focusing on a compelling story of a mother taking the blame for her son and in doing so risking her own life. McAvoy's performance was not entirely convincing but Robin Wright (Mary Surratt) and Evan Rachel Wood (Anna Surratt) played their part's tremendously.

It might have got off to a slow start but I would definitely recommend The Conspirator, it doesn't end how you expect and in doing so somewhat saves the film. Having said that I would expect much more from a Redford film and would not rush to see the film again, definitely a single viewing movie.

Oh Glastonbury...

Last week I lost my Glastonbury virginity and had possibly the best five days of my life. Fashion stakes up, degree results released and the weekend ending with 'shaking what ya Mumma gave ya' to Queen B was possibly the best way to finish university, so expect a long post; fashion reports, music reviews and hilarious happenings.

Musically... the bad, the good and the mind-blowing.

Top of the disappointing list was Cee-Lo Green. Performing on the West Holts stage after Chase & Status, we were hoping for a Grammy-esque rendition of Forget You, instead we were given a diva with no crowd pleasing capability at all. Cee-lo wore an eccentric red coat (which was on the verge of explicit wardrobe malfunction with every hip swing) with shoulder spikes that would make GaGa green with envy. He sang songs that only the hard core of his fans would know and all in all his coat was more exciting than his entire set all together.

The other disappointing set of the weekend was Plan B. Although he was appearing on the Pyramid stage (a appearance that every other artist seemed completely overwhelmed with) Strickland Banks seemed either completely nerve-stricken or just not bothered. Obviously he wanted to promote his new sound but my friends and I were yearning for a glimpse of 'Charmaine' or even 'End Credits.' Despite it being a glorious day, Plan B's set was boring and definitely the biggest disappointment of the weekend.

There are too many acts to mention that were good but the biggest/pleasant surprises of the festival were Tinie Tempah, Elbow, Mumford & sons, Paulo Nutini, Chase & Status and Don McLean. We watched Tinie from the grass at the back of the Pyramid stage, cider in hand dancing away in the sun and in contrast we saw C&S in the pouring rain decked out in our silver and animal print ponchos. Both experiences were sensational!

The mind-blowing of the weekend was definitely Coldplay and Beyonce...

Oh and the best discovery of the weekend was Faith SFX, an astounding beat boxer who supported Plan B. Have a gander, it's extraordinary... FAITH SFX MYSPACE

Fashionably it was, as ever, a floral headband, denim shorts and wellington affair apart from Sunday, renamed 'Sequin Sunday' in tribute to our Queen B. It seemed that Beyonce herself agreed. Bar Beyonce's gold sequin and pants combo, Shingai from the Noisettes' Dolce & Gabbana leotard was definitely a fashion delight. Bringing the fashion points home for the boys was, despite his disappointing performance, Plan B. In the heat he still sported his suited and booted look and this was perhaps the best bit of his performance!

So after much face planting in the mud, booty shaking to Beyonce, crying to Coldplay and getting a 2.1 in my degree it was an amazing five days. Watch out 2013.

After my third and final year of university I am back and ready to get my blog on. You can expect tribulations of a graduate, a visit to paris, Glasto coverage, preparations for worldwide adventures and of course all things fashion and cultured. The glossy's over the past few weeks have been raving about the midi-skirt being back in fashion; 'the figure flattering skirt that will make you look like Sandy from Grease is back.' Big Woop. Personally the shape is far too grandma for me, unless cut just at the knee this is. The midi-skirts I am referring to is the one's cut at the calf, you know the ones that allow women to pile on a few pounds and not shave their legs. The style should be left in the fifties or at least made a little more controversial, perhaps a thigh high split (Christopher Kane this is aimed at you, I am hoping for a leather, floral embroidered, thigh high split midi please!)

FINALLY the season of skinny legs is almost over, as I have far from nice legs I could not be more overjoyed. Trousers are here and as with the previous season they are the way to make this season's style statement. Whether pegleg, wide leg, hareem, cigarette, sport luxe, cropped, straight or ultra skinny it is time to find your trouser style. I advise starting with Gap's new trouser range 'Premium Pant' and ASOS's trouser devoted shop, it is time to get in control and find your power pants!

End of the Hills... (at last)

Thank god it is over. I have no quarms in saying that watching 'crap' TV (like the Hills, the City and Keeping up with the Kardashian's) is my guilty pleasure (well I don't really feel that guilty!) however the Hills has been dragged out for far too long and I am very glad it is finished. I no longer feel obliged to watch and urging for something to happen other than another cat fight or the continuing growth of Spencer's beard. I don't think I will miss it, bar Stephanie Pratts style... that I will surely miss.

On the other hand, I cannot get enough of The City, it is just so much more chic than its predecessor The Hills. Truth be told not an awful lot happens in the show, just the odd Kelly Cutrone lecture and Olivia Palermo bitchy comment/ death stare but the style and environment is just far more exciting. As for the City's character's, I am gutted to no longer watch Erin, I loved her ballsy persona. Nevertheless Whit & co make up for it and with the new addition of Brit Beauty Louise Roe, the character's just seem to be so much more interesting and actually have a job!

Britain's Next Top Model.

Season 6 of BNTM is well under way and is more annoying than ever! Now hosted by Elle McPherson (although beyond gorgeous) is pretty mediocre at presenting and so monotonous to listen to. With Elle's input it seems the producers are trying to Americanise it more and more. I detest the American version, Tyra is beyond patronising, so I am pretty disappointed with the show at the moment. Nevertheless I will keep watching (and maybe just mute Elle) as the models are quite endearing this year. My favourites at the moment seem to be the red heads. I am always partial to a bit of ginge and spend most hours in the day longing to be a red head myself, so BIG UP THE REDHEADS. The Amy Adam's lookalike is my fave.

Couture Fashion Week

Last week Paris hosted Couture Fashion Week and it seemed that all tricks were pulled out of the bag. For me couture is all about avant-garde styles, glamour, drama and completely OTT, and although the top designers did showcase beautiful pieces it was all a little mundane for me. If it was not for Dior and Stephane Rolland couture this season would have been, if I dare to say it, slightly boring.

Chanel's Karl Lagerfield always always puts on a show and this season he did just that. Karl had a lot to live up to after March's winter wonderland theme and this A/W he topped it with a lion's head taking centre stage (apparently it is a nod to Coco Chanel's star sign). Chanel's A/W couture hints of Prussian luxury smothered in embellishment. The collection features great coats that have heavily decorated collars, cuffs and pockets, narrow silhouettes and lots of fur. The tones of the collection were nude's, taupe's and brown's which for me is a little boring. Nevertheless Lagerfield's little injection of humour remained, with the last model sporting a lion mask when coming down the runway.

Givenchy's collection this couture season was a concoction of sheer lace, heavily embroidered lace, fringing, fur, tassles, and gold metallic. The majority of the dresses followed along the line of the romantic theme (think Florence and the Machine) however had a hint of futuristic to them. Nevertheless there was one gold metallic gown that bared huge similarities to Lara Stone's (David Walliam's now wife) wedding dress. Although much more exciting than Chanel, the over use of white and the odd pieces in the collection just did not completely do it for me.

Dior. J'adore Dior. Now this collection is how couture, for me should be. The dramatic structures and use of vibrant colours captivated me; the exuberant layering and excessive frills was pure heaven. My favourites were the purple coat, the electric blue coat and the purple floral dress (See pictures below).

The biggest surprise for me was the amazing show by Stephane Rolland. I completely loved his eclectic collection of tailored cinced waist capes with leather gloves, incredibly structured black gowns and electric blue maxi dresses. (See pictures)

I have now embarked on my summer retail job in a jewellers and as much as I am loving having money again it is safe to say that uniforms and I do not mix. I don't think I have ever really seen (despite 'designer' efforts to create them) a oh so fashionable and above all flattering uniform. I do not have a uniform as such, just a colour code: black, white and purple. Unsurprisingly I quickly eliminated the purple element and have been sticking with the ultra classic monochrome. So if you, like me don't want to look frumpy and about 50 at work here are my top 10 work wear chic worthy pieces...

1. Work appropriate LBD

4. Hot heels that don't kill your feet.

Unfortunately I missed out on Glastonbury this year but nevertheless tuned into the live webcam's, BBC3's coverage (I had to mute the majority of the commentary, is it just me or is Jo Whiley the most annoying disc jockey to grace the air waves?) and Radio 1's live insights (again bar Jo Whiley.) The highlight performances were for me Florence (that one armed leotard was to die for), Scissor Sister's avec Kylie, Faithless, Stevie Wonder, Dizzee and Pet Shop boys.

Fashion is nowaday's as or more important and as meticulously planned as the music, it is no longer the priority to arrange your musical agenda but to arrange your festival outfit, which lets face it is often a denim hotpant/welly number. Having spent much of my nostalgia of not being at Glasto trawling through photo's of the attendee's here are my top 7 best dressed. (I know it is an odd number, but there was far too much fashion eye candy to digest)

7. Paloma Faith, ok she is tres wacky, but I cannot help but find her oversized headgear addiction and uber crazy ensembles overly endearing.

6. Will Young, probably my biggest gay crush is back in the public eye. Loving his laid back shorts and vest here, if only he were straight!

5. La Roux, personally I wouldn't wear her avant-garde jacket, however I think she deserves a fashionista nod for taking power dressing to another level.

4. Henry Holland, he has now finished the ghastly show that was 'Frock me' so my love for him is slowly returning, especially when he sports a get up like this. I like a lot HH.

3. Emma Watson seemed to be the tabloid/ paps favourite this Glasto, well who can blame them when she is wearing a Louis Vuitton corset, denim cut offs and wellies. (She should get a medal for wearing a corset in the blistering heat in my opinion.)

2. Sienna Miller, who I think should take the festival queen crown/headband from Kate Moss. Sienna for me is more boho and festival worthy, I just cannot get enough of this style queen.

1. Florence Welch, that leotard was STUNNING. I could not keep my beady eye's off of it and would desperately love to purchase one myself (however sporting it round my hometown or Birmingham would definitely not suffice, just waiting for that call from the V Fest organisers and I will definitely buy buy buy!)

Summer Must Reads/Must Listens/Must do's/Must watches.

Often the summer, although filled with lots of gorgeous weather and excitement, can drag (especially when you are into the ninth consecutive week of working just to pay off that lousy bottomless pit that is an overdraft!) Here are a few things that I hope to fill my summer with and I hope you can tick a few off the list too.

Watch 'A Single Man' on DVD, it is out in the next few weeks and I can guarantee I will have worn it out within a month. I urge that anyone who has not seen this impeccable piece of film to do so ASAP!
Visit the V&A, my favourite museum in London town. The 'Grace Kelly: Style Icon' exhibition is on at the moment and I am dying to see it.
Exposed at the Tate Modern: Voyeurism, Surveillance and Camera. The exhibition is said to be incredibly innovative.
Vintage Shop, one huge swoop of buying vintage pieces that I can leave as they are, style to the max or alter to suit me perfectly. I am afraid Spalding has very little to offer on that front so a road trip is definitely on the card's.
One thing that Spalding does have on offer is the close proximity of it to the coastline, which means that I hope to fill many a summer hour lazing on the beach.
Summer Listens... Gorillaz album, Massive Attack and Zero 7's greatest hits, all different genre's and perfect summer tunes.
'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee is one of my favourite books, as I haven't read it in 3/4 years it is at the top of 'my book's to read this summer' pile.
Grazia is my weekly love and in my opinion the best fashion magazine on the shelves.
Get Snap Happy. Well firstly invest in a half decent camera and secondly take far too many photos. I am hoping to have gotten an old polaroid camera by the end of summer and to have been far too snap happy with it.
Invest in Sandals. I have reiterated time and time again my love for this shoe, which ultimately means I wear mine out completely so a good investment in some sandals is always a summer necessity.

Tres sorry for my lack of blogging over the last week, have been far too busy and tired from being too busy. All the people, so many people, they all go hand in hand, hand in hand through their Parklife.

Last Saturday a few friends and I trekked to Manchester for some festival fun at Platt fields Park for Parklife. Saw some amazing dj's, the highlights for me being High Contrast and Simian Mobile Disco.

On the fashion front, it seemed it was taken all a little bit too seriously and well I do not think I have ever seen so many bums! As I am sure you can imagine Platt fields was awash with denim shorts, wellies, sandals, waistcoats, headbands and plaits; the usual festival get up. However it was very refreshing so see a few jumpsuits/playsuits (which is a girls nightmare in a porta-loo F.Y.I), hi-tops, maxi-dresses, festival make-up and (it hurts me to say it but) biker boots.

Regardless it was a fantastic day and I had an amazing time with the Manchester & Birmingham girls.

Let's get naked.

Nudes are still very much here and for me, are the perfecto compliment to the other fierce trends this season; prints, power pastels, waterfall structures, leather shorts, cotton shorts, silk shorts and of course statement make up.
I am always partial to a bit of nudity so here are my top tips on how to sport this tone.
1. Nails: A taupe/mushroom colour has been all over celebrities, models and fashionistas alike and is for me a perfect way to sport the tone. The colouring due to it's fabulous subtlety goes with anything and therefore a weekly manicure is all you need.

2.Jacket: Whether a blazer, leather bomber or waterfall front crop this colouring layers over pretty much any other print or colour. Think of Chloe S/S 2010 and the gorgeous layering of the sumptuous nude tones.

3.Peg legs: This shape of trouser is all over the high street at the moment and even elongates the shortest of legs. A nude peg leg is a fantastic alternative to the white linen trouser and is perfect for those girls (me included) who aren't wanting to flash their pins all summer. Team with a killer wedge and a power pastel vest for a sassy summer look.

4.Shoes: I invested into some nude heels quite a while ago now and I reckon should be an essential in every girls wardrobe. The nude heel gives the sense of endless legs and well which girl would not want that!

Wednesday was a busy day! In the morning I visited Marie Claire HQ and went to their 'Inspire & Mentor' Q&A session, in turn met some fantastic people including William Tempest whose collections I am completely in awe of. I managed to grab some top tips and would recommend it to anyone interested in getting into to the fashion industry, they put you in touch with some incredible and successful people.

Knightsbridge Topshop.

On Wednesday I had a gander around the new Topshop branch in Knightsbridge. Being directly opposite Harrods and on one of the busiest streets in London I expected it to be rammed and completely unbearable much like the Oxford St store. However I could not have been more wrong, Knightsbridge can boast of a completely relaxing shopping experience with the most stunning selection of clothes and a perfect layout. The staff were a delight (unfortunately I tend to find many a high street shop assistant to be the opposite) and I fully advise that you ditch Oxford St. and head to Knightsbridge.

Graduate Fashion Week (was fabulous!)

I attended Graduate Fashion Week on Wednesday and was completely blown away. The show I attended was the Gala Show, which consists of the 30 shortlisted collections that are nominated for Gala Awards. Collections were shown from universities and colleges around the world even as far as Singapore.

The collections were breathtaking and featured such a diverse display of influence from ‘Poise, Elegance and Decorum’ in Nathalie Tunna’s collection to Oriental Dragons and Rituals in Anna Lee’s collection.

The graduate’s as always created such statements with their collections, Naomi New in particular (pictured above). Naomi, a graduate from Northumbria University collection featured heavily studded structural pieces with trains of real hair. It was clear that her influence was the warrior trend and the pieces were spectacular. Knitwear was huge on the Gala Catwalk this year, I personally loved Ledina Zhang’s, of Northumbria University, oversized multi-coloured pieces scattered with pom-poms and teamed with ear muffs. Ledina won the BHM Knitwear Visionary Award this year.

My favourite collection (pictured above) was Anna Lee’s from DeMontfort University. It featured fantastical prints that resembled flames and waterfalls, which in turn created such beautiful movement. The pieces consisted of printed velvet compiled to produce unique structures. The combination of the rich reds and gold’s with watery blues and greens complemented the theme perfectly. It was crystal clear that Anna’s theme was the Chinese Dragon yet she created such surprise and individuality with her collection, it was anything but expected. Anna finished off her ensembles perfectly with patterned tights and shoes and huge statement necklaces of dragons and tigers. I was blown away by this collection and it seemed everyone else was too; Anna was presented with the Zandra Rhodes Catwalk Textiles prize at the Gala Awards last night.

The Gala Show also featured ready-to-wear pieces from the likes of Jeff Sweeney from the Edinburgh College of Art (who has Holly Fulton as alumni to boast about) and Nathalie Tunna (pictured above) from Kingston University whose ‘poised’ collection had me screaming for more. Jeff’s sumptuous evening wear, edged up with fur studded waistcoats just seemed so now and what young girls want when it comes to evening wear; I loved loved LOVED it. Nathalie’s collection, which is said to be inspired by ‘Poise, Elegance and Decorum’, featured 1930’s shapes, high-waisted skirts, stiff collars and A-line structures. Made of duchase satin in sugary pretty pastels, Nathalie’s dresses, blazers and backpacks were sophisticated lady meets preppy.

Menswear also featured strongly this year the highlights being for me Thomas Crisp’s glitzy collection and Garry Butterfield’s mouth-watering collection. Thomas featured maroon skinny jeans, trophy jackets for men and fantastic printed scarves. From his collection it is clear that Thomas is also an amazing stylist, he got it spot-on and in doing so he was awarded the The Best Menswear Award. Garry’s collection although the pallet was very tertiary, the textures and shapes he used more than made up for it. The highlights for me where the huge tartan cape and the ‘melt in you mouth’ butter leather blazers that were heavily embroidered and perfectly exemplified Garry’s craftsmanship. Garry's work is pictured below.

This year’s Gala Show was mesmerising, I left completely inspired and very excited to know that this is the next generation of the fashion frontier. We have a lot to look forward to. Congratulations to all the Graduates.

I am very excited for Graduate Fashion Week on Wednesday. After reading a few preview pieces it seems that this year GFW is going to be dominated by the work of students from Asia and their muse of 'Kitchen Couture' (Yes you heard right, start collecting those spatulas, colanders and potato peelers; they are 'in'!). Kai Yeung is the name to look out for it seems, with his latticed knitwear and plastic colander headgear featuring this week.

Just got in from watching the second Sex and the City Movie and am very torn to whether I enjoyed it or not. I sat in my seat with huge anticipation and do not feel that this anticipation has been satisfied.

The story, was for me, too fantastical. I have loved the slight fantasy element of the series and the first movie, the idea that Carrie could not possibly afford those shoes or designer labels for example, but this time the story and at times the fashion went too far (If you go to see it, look out for the Spice Market outfit and the flight hat.)

Even though the story line was hard to believe at times, I was desperate for more drama, not much happened and I do not feel as if I know the character's any better than I did before. In fact I do not feel that the movie presented the women as how I have come to know them through the series. I missed Miranda's cynicism (in fact Miranda was hardly in the film) and Carrie's spontaneity (she is now just a nagging wife).

Also the setting of Abu Dhabi somewhat left me feeling very uncomfortable. With each girl having their own car, own butler and continually disrespecting the Muslim culture it could not have been further than being identifiable. What I love about SATC is that although the girls do love their extravagancies, I can still relate to them, however in this movie they could not have been further from this. Maybe this is because I am still a young girl in my twenties and they are much older now, married with kids etc, I do feel nevertheless that this movie was perhaps aimed at an older audience and missed the younger fans out.

My love for Samantha also decreased massively in this movie, in previous SATC she was a classy, successful lady who was not afraid to talk openly about her sexuality. However in this film, she was brassy, disrespectful and somewhat 'trashy'. I feel that the writers had to make up for the lack of charisma in the other character's in the movie by over emphasising Samantha's crudeness. It was crudeness on steroids.

All I can say is thank god for Stanford and Antony's wedding otherwise I fear that I would have been left completely disappointed.

I advise Michael Patrick King to stop right there and not completely ruin the heritage and name that Carrie and the girls have left for women, another movie might just lose the loyal legion of fans.

As of late I have been channelling my inner Granny and have taken up knitting. I used to knit when I was younger, however during my 'cool' teenage years completely discarded my skills. Coming from a family of textile enthusiasts (my Nana is the crochet master) it has always been in my blood to sew, dye, cross stitch etc and my biggest regret is not taking a textile related degree.

I was given my new needles for my 20th birthday (perhaps not the most encouraging thing to start adulthood with) it has quickly become my new craze and I have been interlocking them ever since. So far I have only produced a bright pink square, but don't you worry friends and fam, my skills will be top notch in time to knit your christmas presents!

Also I have come across 'jumbo knitting' with huge needles and thick wool that ultimately produces these gorgeous huge scarves, will most definitely be looking into that. As soon as I have produced something presentable, I will of course, share.

As I said before (and to massive regret) I cannot update this as regularly as I want to because of horrendous exams and endless revision. However by June 3rd I will be free as a bird and will be back to my blogging ways. Here are a few things that are upcoming on Viv is my Homegirl.

May 28th (as if you did not know) is the Sex and the City 2 premiere. My box set is completely worn out and I am waiting in huge anticipation to know what happens to the girls, I am not a fan of Carrie, shockingly, but cannot wait to see what masterpieces the fabulous Patricia Field has put her in. I am most keen to know what happens to Samantha, I love her attitude and confidence and really want to see her hilarious antics in this movie. My ticket is booked for 5pm on Friday to go see it with some girlfriends and the review will be up ASAP.

June 5th, I start blogging for designasuit.com. Tres excited as it is a bit different from Glossy and I will be featuring menswear themed posts too. I will post the links up as soon as my first post is published.

June 9th, I am attending the Marie Claire Q&A session at Earls Court on how to get into fashion. Any top tips I am given I will share, fingers crossed that it will lead to something exciting. In the evening I have my ticket booked for Graduate Fashion Week's gala, featuring all the best bits from the previous days, very excited to see the creations and hopefully spot the new Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane or Luella. I will of course review and share my favourite pieces on here (note to self. MUST CHARGE CAMERA!)
Also I recently won tickets to the 'Dictionary of Dress' at the V&A's Blythe House. Will post pictures and reviews once I have been.

Osman's V(ivacious)&A(mazing) Catwalk.

I watched the live streaming of Osman Yousefzada's Fashion in Motion collection today at the V&A. He never fails to impress me with his plain colours but impeccable lines and fantastical shapes, it is all about structure for Osman. The highlights for me were the Glittered rollneck and the LBD with a encrusted bib and feathered collar, simply incredible. Osman, for me, is the king of power dressing and the androgynous models he used completely complemented his structured ensembles and brought edge to his more floaty pieces.

Birthday Bounce.

Leaving my teenage years behind and turning twenty was most definitely more enjoyable than I first thought it would be, for one as I have aged a year my recommended heart rate at the gym has gone down by one beat!!
It began on Sunday (a diva needs a two day birthday!) with our rank student house being transformed into a birthday beaut, a fierce nail manicure (see below post) and embracing all things spanish, well tapas, gallons of sangria and my appalling spanish accent, at La Tasca with some lovelies. On Monday, the family came and took me shopping and for dinner at the Mailbox. Monday eve, we set off some Chinese wish lanterns (I hope those wishes come true girls!) and played with sparklers!

Highlights on the fashion stakes were Whistles khaki shorts, Vintage brooch, House of Holland tights, wedge espadrilles, crochet black dress, RayBan cats eye's and the floral brogues pictured in the previous post. I was given a fantastic book by my housemate; it is The Satorialist's book on all his fantastic street fashion photography. It has already given me inspiration, thus giving my bank balance a nice whack. A Vogue subscription, from my BFFE, LOVE LOVE LOVE and a bottle of champers definitely is going to hit the spot post exams.

This season has been all about bright colours and vibrant prints, with the catwalks and high street alike being awash of Aztecs, florals and acid tones. The ‘white wash’ trend may not be covered in print, but by no means is it less vibrant, bright or statement making.

The ‘white wash’ trend, if you hadn’t guessed it, consists of pure white pieces and although this trend is somewhat perennial, this season, designers are concentrating on innovative shapes, clean lines and ultra fabulous forms. This trend is the new way to power dress.

The ‘white wash’ trend was the key theme in many designers’ Spring/Summer 2010 collections; Calvin Klein and Michael Kors resurrected the white boyfriend blazer, Givenchy incorporated the cut-out trend into their white ensembles, Fendi toyed with texture creating amazing shapes with riveting ruffles and Osman Yousefzada’s entire collection consisted of whites.

This trend however is not just for those who can afford designer clobber; our fabulous British high street has come through for us yet again. Topshop, Asos and in particular French Connection have played with texture, structure and have created pieces that look as if they have come straight off the catwalk for a fraction of the price.

Despite preconceptions that it is only the tall, leggy and skinny of us that can pull it off, the ‘white wash’ trend has brought so many different textures and shapes to the fashion world that the trend can be adopted by anyone and flatter any shape. Possibly the greatest advantage of this trend is that it somewhat acts as blank canvas, you can accessorize your ensemble to the max and can go with ultra statement pieces and completely pull it off. Mix your white peg leg trousers with killer heels and your power shoulder blazers with statement necklaces for a super chic look.

The ‘white wash’ trend is by no means boring, the eye is drawn to the fantastic fabrics, shapes and textures instead of being overwhelmed with prints. This season, white is the new black, look out for and invest in the new LWD (Little White Dress). Be brave, be bold.

As nowadays I tend to spend my time at my desk blogging, revising, avoiding revision and painting my nails (to avoid avoiding revision!) I have seemed to develop a problem with wearing ordinary clothes. It seems I live in my PJ's at the moment and it is becoming a fashion faux pas.
Many people stroll up to lectures in what looks like pjamas (it might be Jack Wills, but it's still looks like bedwear!) but I just cannot do it.

I have taken to the leggings and t-shirt look for now, please exams be over so I can start wearing actual clothes again!!

If you have been shopping with me recently or just been around when I have been gabbing fashion (normally 24/7) you will know that I have been in the need of a leather skirt for some time. Yes I did NEED it! Well once again my favourite male designer Henry Holland has come through for me. Today I purchased a leather mini skirt from his Debenhams collection and I am in love. THANK YOU HH!

I have a deal with myself that to shop no more until my exams are done and dusted (Birthday shopping does not count!) So I have bought a few statement pieces to last me until then;

A jersey jumpsuit: from H&M and hugely flattering. Denim Jacket & Sandals by day, Blazer & Heels by Night.

A lace tiered vest: from Urban Outfitters (to go with le leather skirt).

Alexander McQueen scarf: from ebay, biggest bargain of the year so far.

Lilac Nail varnish: easily my favourite colour and ran out of the first pot. It is by Gosh at Superdrug.

Fake Bake: To cover up the strap marks of my easter break sunbathing and to cover up the paleness of my pins.

I hope everyone is not too stressed with work/revision.

Disappointment

Out-net this morning was chaos, I was online and shopping at 7.30, quickly chose a £1 item (a beautiful Chloe' clutch at that) and within seconds of clicking buy it was sold out. The site also kept crashing which was very heart-wrenching when a Chloe clutch is at stake! I say next time Out-Net upload more sale items at intervals throughout the day so all the goodies aren't gone within 10 minutes of the sale beginning.

Why is it that the term 'feminist' nowadays often has a negative connotation? Previously it has been a forward thinking strong position, but many today consider ALL feminists to be bra-burning, men-hating nutters. This is far from the case and I suggest that many adopt feminist thought's without even realising; for instance I am sure many would vote for equal pay among the sexes, for women to have the same opportunities in education, the family and the labour market as men. After a trip to the coast this weekend I have noticed that with a glimpse of sun the British public are in no way hesitant when lapping up the rays. Yet is it just me or are we still sporting our winter ensembles? As the economic times are tough, wouldn’t it be amazing to transform our winter wardrobe into summer attire without having to fork out for brand new fashion forward pieces.

So I have come up with a few fashion savvy ideas to reinvent our winter closet in to a summer sensation.

Firstly, the most obvious, cut off jean legs to make shorts or a skirt. This idea can be applied to tights too, especially winter’s popular lace tights, snip the feet off for footless tights or up to the knee for the new spring/summer cycling short look.

Over the winter, the Mac, Blazer and denim and leather jackets were on the scene, take them to a seamstress and have the sleeves removed. You will then have an edgy, individual new summer look without breaking the bank. You could do this yourself but if you ask a professional you can reinsert the sleeves for next autumn/winter.

Accessories and shoes too need to be brought into this season, try replacing laces in sandals, pumps, hi-tops and shoe boots with a floral or techno patterned ribbon. Finally buy acrylic paint and decorate your old bangles and cocktail rings with bright colours and Aztec patterns bringing them straight up-to-date and into the techno-trend.

After chats with family, friends and colleagues about people we know having babies at our age (19/20) and being quite disapproving, it has caused me to wonder why this is so?
Twenty years ago it was the norm for women to have babies so young. In the 1950's/1960's society judged women who went out and got the career they wanted instead of embracing their maternal role. Nowadays it seems that we are judging women who choose to have families at a young age instead of a career. Surely all the hard work that the womens movement have done over the last half century was for women to have the choice, not for the situation to be completely reversed and for women to be expected to put a career first instead of motherhood.

Although the post-easter health kick is going well for now, I have realised that confidence isn't always about your body, its more about how your body looks in your clothes.
There are all these rules for curvy girls, not to wear horizontal lines, nip in at the waist and A-line everything! My one simple rule is wear black. You might think that it's boring to wear black and funeral-esque, but I definately think that you can edge up a head to toe black outfit with a colored belt, accessories, jewellery, make-up and of course the ultimate pair of heels.
Also choose different textures, sequin and bead embellishment are perfect for this and make the outfit pop. Choose garments with something unique on them, like zips on hems, embellishment, lace or leather inserts.

You can still be creative all in black.

H&M, the new high street hero?

For the last few years, H & M have seemed lacklustre on the fashion forward pieces. However over the last couple of months H & M have grabbed that fashion flag and are marching forward! I have purchased a cotton floral bomber jacket, leather insert leggings and zipped hem leggings along with basic vests and accessories. The cheapness of their items also means that you can layer up garments and create the perfect traffic stopping, fashion forward and individual look, all for around £30.

Have a gander girls, it might just be my new Topshop.

I think I speak for all women when I say that I am so relieved for mid-height heels to be back in fashion. Now we can dance all night long without the sharp pains in our tootsies. Tall girls can wear heels and not feel too tall, short girls can still get the lift they want, perfecto and painless.

All these equations are tediously boring. With the freedom of fashion at our fingertips it is definately about time to mix it up. There are all these rules that your bag should match your shoes, your accessories should match, that similar colours shouldn't be mixed, all rubbish. Of course avoid the jumble sale look, but nowadays it is all about colour blocking, clashing colours and layering of tones. Take for example this season's nude pallet, mix it up with beiges, white, greys, browns and metallics. There is something much more exciting and effortless about the 'I just threw this look together after falling out of bed' look, eventhough deep down you know that you have meticously planned it.

Clash patterns together, layer the african prints with last seasons, but readily available, florals.

Jumpsuit Jargon.

Tried on a jumpsuit yesterday from Henry Hollands new debenhams line, it was black, peg leg and had some lapels at the front. However it has a white ditsy print all over, which I am sure is dead flattering on a 6ft beanpole, but on me I looked like a walking duvet! So first attempt failed, decided to narrow it down to plain (in colour) and peg leg in style, second attempt occuring soon.

A Single Man.

Just got back from watching A Single Man, such a stylish movie that I felt underdressed just watching it. Colin Firth, usually a romcom master, thoroughly deserved his BAFTA for his deep portrayal of George Falconer. He captured it perfectly and although the character could be somewhat cold and unnaproachable the audience were warmed to him. Tom Ford created the perfect atmosphere for the audience where they were undecided on whether to relax with George or still have this unbearable anxiety concerning George's plans. Im trying not to give too much away here, so excuse the vague description. The ending (without giving anything away) although sad, was in some way satisfying for the audience knowing that George is at one with himself.
A must see for any Tom Ford fan, like his suits, the film was impeccable, slick and cut to perfection.

Many of us are under alot of stress at the moment, with looming deadlines, dissertation topics needing to be decided and exams on the horizon. I think we all need to take a deep sigh and C.T.F.O.
Henry 'the king of the slogan' Holland has an amazing range of T shirts out at the moment, with tongue in cheek but nevertheless wise words emblazoned on them.

Has women's empowerment left men in the dark?

Just been flicking through this weeks Grazia and a particular article has caught my eye. Menimist's are a new front that is emerging in the battle of the sexes.
I have recently wrote a Gender and Sexuality essay on how the conceptualisations of masculinty have changed since the 1950's and came across the Men's movement. The Men's movement blame feminist successes and the empowerment of women for the new masculine insecurity that is apparently amongst the male population.
However menimist's, unlike feminists, do not claim to be repressed they just want to know where they stand in this gender shifting society. Grazia explains that men are now too feeling guilty about not spending enough time with their children, there is a distinct increase in 'moob' plastic surgery and men are too becoming insecure about their bodies in the same way as women have been.
Have a look at the article, its refreshing to hear how the other gender deals with the social and economic changes that we have gone through as women.

Stuck on outfit possibilities for a christening. In love with the idea of a jumpsuit, but do I have the balls to jump in. Am sick of pretty pretty floaty dresses and feel that my wardrobe needs something, in the words of the awful Tyra, 'fierce'! A jumpsuit may be the perfect option, but lets face it I am not six foot or a built like a bean pole. I am going to go on the hunt for a jumpsuit that will flatter my 5ft 5, very curvy shape and not make me look like a fugitive. I'll keep you posted on my progress. If all else fails the infamous 'notice me dress' production might have to speed it self up pronto. Note to self; find fabric ASAP and at all costs avoid the fugitive look!
